Break It Down is tackling one of its most formidable projects ever, a building that was made to be virtually impenetrable — the Riverfront State Prison in Camden, New Jersey. There are concrete cell blocks, a library, a chapel, four guard towers, and razor wire — and it's all got to come crashing down. This sixteen-acre property sits on valuable riverfront real estate. So the prison is getting a death sentence, and the land is going to be cleared for new construction. But there are obstacles at almost every turn — from the deadly risk of asbestos to the swirling snows of a winter storm. If that's not a big enough challenge, the team is working hard to recycle as much material from the old prison as they can. It's got to be carefully cleared out and shipped off, with old copper and steel becoming new products through recycling. At last, what was one of the most formidable places around has been reduced to an empty landscape — a site that's now ripe for a new beginning.
