Two friends enjoying a weekend in the country invite tragedy into their lives when they stop to help a girl in trouble. After one of the friends is killed, the other (Campbell Scott) is seriously injured and brought to a remote cabin to recuperate. But when he falls in love with the daughter (Virginia Lantry) of the family providing him refuge, he learns of an inexplicable secret that will forever keep them apart.
